Streaming services and videogames

Netflix is a phenomenon. Of all the things in the world that I would have expected to captivate millions of people every single day this probably wasn’t one of them, though maybe that speaks more to how little I watch of TV and films. I, too, have succumbed to the sweet whispers of Netflix – if for no other reason than to have it so my girlfriend can watch it when she comes over. Streaming services, though, are starting to move out of TV and film and into other realms. Like gaming.

This is a tricky issue. Streaming works exceptionally well for TV and film. Games, though, have different problems that services need to conquer. Games are much bigger, size wise, they have variable resolutions, variable frame rates both of which need to be taken into account. Games, too, often have extremely complex legal and contractual issues surrounding them. The price, too, becomes an increasingly prohibitive aspect as well. These are all issues that are beginning to surface and videogame streaming finds its feet.
