Slack is the team messaging app that enables teams to communicate across great distances, but their app has been lacking with the basic video and voice capability for a while. Enter Skype, with it’s aim to improve slack and enable it to be selected by typing into a channel or chat /Skype to establish communications between teams using the voice and video capabilities of Skype; anybody with access to that channel will be notified that a call is active and be able to access it.
Microsoft’s workplace communication platform Skype for Business (formerly called Lync) already exists, though not well known; Slack is well known and well established team conferencing platform, and it makes more sense for Microsoft to push that same capability through a Slack Channel.
This way we combine the best conferencing tech from Skype and Slack together to create something beautiful that works well for all businesses wishing to communicate with their teams across great distances.
